Camp Cooking at Elk Bay
Over the easter long weekend a close friend of mine and I had the opportunity to visit one of the lesser known recreation sites from the backroads mapbook, the Elk Bay Recreation site!
She visits the site pretty frequently during the winter, but this was my first camp at the bay.
The site is a beautiful spot, but quite a ways down a rough logging road.
The campsite features fire rings / pits and picnic tables alongside the ocean-front with beautiful views towards Quadra Island.
Pit toilets were clean, but bring your own Toilet Paper and hand sanitizer as none is provided.
Camping fee? None! It's a beautiful spot and no fees attached - just as long as you can get there in one piece 😉
One of my favourite things about camping is the cooking.
It's fun, it's tasty - and what makes food taste even better? A beautiful view and the smell of the salty ocean breeze while you eat.
The featured image of this camp cookout is a camp-style miso-ramen soup with medium-boiled eggs, japanese ramen, eggplant, stinging nettles, and beets.
I've never had nettle or beets in my ramen-miso soup, but it was delicious - and exactly what we needed to warm up from that brisk ocean-front air on a cold rainy day.
Check out our "Camp Cooking" collection of products you can find on our home page, which also features another delicious meal we cooked on this very same trip!
In a future post, I'll share my top 5 cookware picks for your next camp cookout. Until then, enjoy the views below from Elk Bay, north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island.
